Can you feel the side of your atlas bone in the sides of your neck!?
I ve been freaking out for about 3 weeks now about a lump I felt at the side/back of my neck on the right. However, more and more I m thinking it s a lymph node/muscle/fat sitting on top of my atlas bone, which is why it may be more pronounced. If I move the squishy lump on top (the lymph node/muscle/fat?) I can feel a VERY hard lump underneath, and on the outer side of my neck there is another hard structure (possibly my styloid process?) I can t feel this on the left side of my neck, so i m assuming the left side just has more fat/muscle in the way? I m naturally pretty thin, so I think it might just be the atlas bone then…can anyone else feel the end of theirs on either side of their neck?! You have to press pretty deep to do it, but I only noticed it because I have some other squishy thing on top (which when pressed directly feels hard due to bone? being beneath it, but when moved around feels squishy) I think its the ‘transverse process’ of the atlas that I’m feeling… I just wonder/worry why I never felt it before e.g. maybe the lump thing on top has enlarged if it’s a lymph node, making the whole area feel like a bigger bump. Or maybe it was always like that and I never noticed?
