It is unlikely that by the second month the embryo is taxing the mother’s nutrition enough to require any special compensation. It is entirely possible that pregnancy is affecting the mother’s hormones in a way that makes her feel insecure, ignored or depressed. She may be seeking attention, if she is a single mother then this would all the more make sense. I wouldn’t be too annoyed by this behavior, and I don’t think it’s terribly unusual.
